Ashé Jordan

Pro Zouk Dancer and workshop participant

I’ll never forget when we first met and danced for hours. That one experience helped heal a lot of brotherhood wounds and I never felt that safe being held by a man.

Apollo

Workshop participant

You are a wizard! You make incredible magic happen between people (individuals and groups). You have x-ray vision right into the heart of what’s needed and then you offer the exact medicine for whatever that thing is and the medicine you share is playful, juicy and sweet, so it’s a joy to receive.

Returning to Roots. Tending to Technique.

Wren LaFeet returns for another day of Fusion classes designed to inspire and advance skill level of this beloved PT Fusion community!

WORKSHOP CAPACITY is 40 PEOPLE!
We encourage you to preregister if you want to attend!

At the foundation of all great dancing is solid connection – to one’s self, to the earth, the music and one’s partner. This day of workshops will focus in on 4 specific topics that when mastered, can elevate your connection and your dance to new highs.

Join us for a sweet and accessible series of Cocréa Fusion workshops.
  • 1:00 pm: Self Attunement and Solo Musicality or “Spinaesthesia”
  • 2:10 pm: Partner Attunement or The Butter Zone or “Uniquilibrium”
  • 3:20 pm: Micro Fusion – Playing with Subtelty
  • 4:30 pm: Macro Fusion – Body Shaping and Kinetic Dialogue
All of these workshops are beginner to intermediate in level, so there will be something for everyone.

This day of classes is meant to bring dancers of different levels together, but be accessible to all. If you take the whole day as a progression, you’ll absolutely be able to grasp the material the whole way through. Wren has been honing his teaching for 12 years, and has an uncanny ability to bring rank novice dancers up in level with incredible speed and efficiency, and also offer seasoned dancers creative ideas and fresh perspective.

With 24 years of experience in partner dancing, and a lifetime background in theater, Wren calls his teaching style, “facilitainment”. “Facil” in Spanish means easy. So combined with the word attainment, he loves to make attaining advancement and understanding both easy and fun.

His primary motivation is to spread the joy, connection and healing power of partner dance. He is so happy to be returning to one of his most beloved homes, where his Mama lives, and one where he finds so much inspiration both in movement as well as in stillness.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

1:00 – 2:00 Self Attunement and Solo Musicality or Spinaesthesia
To most effectively move with others, it is wildly valuable to know how to move our own body. This workshop brings greater awareness to how our many parts interact with each other comprising our unique and exquisite instrument, and the different elements that comprise music. We will study tempo, duration, weight, repetition and articulation, how to listen for them in the music and how the body can express sound as movement.

2:10-3:10 Partner Attunement or The Butter Zone or Uniquilibrium
The corner stone of any partner dance is a solid and supple connection between two people. This class dials in the ideas of frame and tone and endows dancers the presence and awareness required to adjust in real time, negotiate consent both verbally and non-verbally, and find the perfect connection with each new partner.

3:25-4:25 Micro Fusion – Savoring Subtlety
This practice is all about PRESENCE! Technique focuses on a close embrace, a relaxed frame in which the lead/follow roles are less defined and expanding our listening to the music and our partner to hear subtlety and nuance. We’ll play with stalls, tone and speed ramps, recognizing when the music is about to hand you an epic drop to accent, and how to communicate through the body in a conversation where both people are listening and speaking at the same time.

4:30-5:30 Macro Fusion – Body Shaping and Kinetic Dialogue
Body shaping is an essential skill for mastering conversational dance in which both dancers are living their best lives. We’ll focus on giving and taking space in both lead and follow roles to the purpose of creating a fluid exchange in which both people are listening AND responding in real time, as well as expressing their movement desires without demand.

5:30 – 7:30 Dinner Break

7:30-10:00 Fusion Dance! with DJs Wren LaFeet and TBA!

Facilitator • Cocréa Director and Co-Founder

Wren is celebrating the exquisite privilege of getting to dance in partnership for almost 25 years and loves serving humanity as a somatic permissionary. Teaching partner dance internationally as a practice for mindful, authentic living, and enlivening communities by facilitating his signature modality, Cocréa, has been his joy for over a decade. Wren guides humans curious about embodiment towards right relationship by exploring the realms of Self, Earth, Music, Sacred Other, Community and Whole through listening and responding, and inviting, allowing and embracing change. He is a celebrated TEDx speaker, featured author in “ReInhabiting the Village” and ardent proponent of pioneering a new renaissance through authentic connection and consensual touch.

Wren is an able bodied white male residing in Awaswas Ohlone territory (Santa Cruz, CA). As a non-binary identified, 11th generation American descended most recently from artist and blue collar working class parents, Wren is in a deep reckoning with the numerous and nuanced aspects of self that influence how we navigate interpersonal relationships and cultural identity on the journey into right relationship.

Wren promotes dance as an embodied approach to spirituality that spans the chasm between false refuge and celebration through surrender, and as medicinal salve for our modern ailments of disconnection and dislocation.
