Ashé Jordan

I’ll never forget when we first met and danced for hours. That one experience helped heal a lot of brotherhood wounds and I never felt that safe being held by a man.

Apollo

Workshop participant

You are a wizard! You make incredible magic happen between people (individuals and groups). You have x-ray vision right into the heart of what’s needed and then you offer the exact medicine for whatever that thing is and the medicine you share is playful, juicy and sweet, so it’s a joy to receive.

A Wholistic Fusion

Harnessing the Power of Presence in Co-Created Movement.

Cocréa is Collaborative, Organic Communication, Revolutionizing Embodied Awareness.

Cocréa engages us in the practice of moving in intuitive, kinetic dialogue with one another to just about any style of music and serves as a means to take your dance to a new level of artistry and authentic connection with others!

This Playshop (same as a workshop but more fun) is for people who are:
  • Excited to explore new ways of dancing with familiar people
  • Curious to discover ways to seamlessly transition between styles
  • Opening to different musical inspiration in their dance
  • Wanting to meet new dancers in their community
  • Ready to welcome a new level of presence and sensuousness to their dance experience
  • Pumped to up their listening and improvisational prowess by at least 2x
No partner necessary.
Come with your beloved, a friend, or solo. All will be invited to dance with each other, and you are welcome to not change partners as well.

We’ll learn how to wield creative expression with consideration to another body and practice nuanced responsiveness to one another in improvisational, co-created dance.

In this playshop we’ll explore:
  • Core Stability & Balance
  • Lead-Follow Dynamics within Conversational Play
  • Adaptive Listening Techniques
  • Accessing Intuitive Movement and Flow
  • Next Level Musicality
Building on the foundational elements of social partner dance technique as our common language, Wren’s playful and sincere guidance teaches how to wield creative expression with consideration to another body and practice nuanced responsiveness to one another in improvisational, co-created dance. Cocréa is a gateway to accessing the body’s wisdom to deepening Self and relational attunement. Our intention is to explore form and play creatively from our heart, body and spirit, in full support and appreciation of ourselves and one another.

SCHEDULE

2:30 – 3:20PM Intro to Mindful Partner Dance
With its origins in the Fusion partner dance movement, and giving huge appreciation to Blues, Swing, Hip-Hop and other resistance dances that have massively shaped fusion, the Cocréa practice is to meet one another where we are and engage in an explorative movement dialogue while paying attention, with intention, non-judgmentally. As we hone this dynamic, kinetic toolbox, we emphasize connection, communication and creative expression between two humans within a community of others, and endeavor to make ourselves a safe space for others to express and interact with. Emphasis on consent, breath to support energetic containment and cultivating presence as perhaps the pleasure we are truly seeking.

3:30-4:20PM Blues Fusion: Groove and Flow
Using the Blues vernacular, this class teaches the juicy qualities of blues with different musical contexts and helps dancers craft smooth, elegant, and unified dances. Groove, pulse, contrabody, swivels, we’ll get into all that jive and be a lot looser and hopefully more free by the end.

4:30-5:30PM Fine Attunement: Partner as an Extension of Your Body Building on the detailed rhythmic work from the first session, we’ll bring that same level of refinement to our connection technique. Bringing a high degree of awareness to the movements of the body and how they impact our partner, we’ll explore and refine tone and tone ramping, the continuum of connection that happens before we physically touch, and the vast degree of subtle variability that can occur thereafter.

Wren LaFeet

Facilitator • Cocréa Director and Co-Founder

Wren is an embodiment guide intent on learning how to be in right-relationship as a 21st century human so he can best serve life. A trained dancer and theater worker, Wren shares body-based practices synthesized from social partner dance, mindfulness, Taoism, the Gene Keys, watersheds, neuroscience and psychology that support interpersonal connection and positive change. In 2013, Wren co-founded Cocréa with Antje Schäfer as a vehicle for exploring mindful, consent based relational practice through movement and dance.

Channeling this intelligence, he creates brave spaces for humans struggling with disconnection and longing for a deeper sense of belonging to come home to themselves through the body. Wren’s own many years of seeking have led him through theater and filmmaking, circus, nomadism, psychedelic-informed music culture, yoga, consent culture, decolonization work, permaculture and most presently, addiction recovery counseling and breathwork practice. Along his path, nature, community, relationship, humor, movement and a sense of belonging to something far larger and more unknowable than this seemingly separate self are the consistent threads with which Wren braids meaning and purpose into life.

He is a TEDx speaker, featured author in “ReInhabiting the Village”, certified Attunement Therapy practitioner and HeartMath certified trauma sensitive educator. Wren is currently in transition from living on the unceded lands of the Awaswas and Amun Mutsen peoples (Santa Cruz, CA) to the traditional unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations (Vancouver, BC).

He has been dancing since 1998 and began performing on stage when he was 6 years old. He recently completed working with Embodied Recovery as a substance use disorder counselor in Los Gatos, CA.
